Product Description

Developed by the USDA in 1974, Comet is a hybrid hop created from English Sunshine and a native American wild hop, bred specifically to deliver higher alpha acid content. While commercial production has declined over time, Comet remains a distinctive variety with a flavor profile well suited to American ales.

With alpha acids typically ranging from about 9.4% to 12.4%, Comet provides firm, assertive bitterness alongside a classic American aroma marked by grassy notes and bright citrus. Its bittering character can be polarizing if overused, but when applied thoughtfully it produces a bold, memorable result. When Comet is unavailable, Galena or Summit can serve as substitutes. Brewers curious about its impact can experience its character in well-known examples such as Brew Dog’s IPA and Dead Comet IPA.
